The lottery in its present state has lost its excitement. Every couple of days somebody wins 2000-5000 gold. Booooooring!
These changes have been implemented and are effective immediately:
- The lottery drawing now occurs every night at midnight, and there is a guaranteed winner each day.
- The newsbot (here on the forum) will announce the lottery winners in a weekly round-up post rather than announcing each winner separately. You can still see yesterday's winner by hovering your mouse over any valid lottery ticket (in the gold shop or in your inventory).
- The server clock has been changed to Eastern Time. This is a big and exciting change! Since several things get refreshed at 12 AM, it makes a lot more sense to have the day end at midnight in New York (when it's 9 PM in California), rather than at midnight in California (when it's 3 AM in New York). This will make it easier for those of you who live in the Eastern US to play in the final minutes of daily/weekly tournaments, see the lottery winner, etc. The day ends 3 hours earlier than it previously did, in other words, according to server time.
- A new mission (weekly leaderboard) has been added to reward those who purchase the most lottery tickets, IF that happens to be a mission that week. There are 9 possible missions now, so on average it will occur once every 3 weeks and this frequency will go down if/when we add more missions. Also, the mission has been queued to occur with 100% chance next week for testing purposes, but it should be bug-free. The main benefit of this mission is that every 3-4 weeks it will (theoretically) result in the lottery jackpots being a lot larger that week, because of the extra incentive for buying tickets.
Also, one technical detail for those who try to buy a bunch of tickets and are curious about the message:
- There are no restrictions on buying the first 10 tickets, but after that, the system will prevent you from buying additional tickets if you own 50% or more of the outstanding (valid) tickets. This way you can't purchase a ton of tickets unless other people are also buying tickets (effective capping your chances of winning at no more than 50%). This restriction does not apply to getting lottery tickets as a quest reward, that can always happen regardless.
Hopefully this will make the lottery a little more fun. Especially next week when there's a leadership award up for grabs as an added incentive to buy tickets. Good luck players!
