Starting today, only the current year of 1st-Place Tournament Awards count towards your tournament rank (Beginner / Advanced / Expert). This means that you may find that you can now access Beginner Tournaments when your previously couldn't (right now!) if you had a lot of tourney wins in the past but haven't had many this year in 2017 (less than 50 daily awards for daily beginner tournaments, and less than 500 weekly awards for weekly beginner tournaments).
It will reset again at the end of this month (when 2018 starts), but you may in fact have access to beginner tournaments today if you haven't won a lot of tournaments this year (in 2017). This could be a good chance to get some extra tourney awards!
Also, the Ladder page has been updated to show yearly stats instead of monthly.
